The right-back position has become a top priority for Paris Saint-Germain this summer. The club recently lost starter Thomas Meunier on a free transfer to Borussia Dortmund. PSG is now left with Thilo Kehrer and Colin Dagba as its lone options at the position. But the board is now eyeing one promising defender to possibly have him join the team soon.
PSG is interested in Atalanta right-back Timothy Castagne, according to the Belgium-based outlet Het Laatste Nieuws.
Per the HLN report, Castagne is planning on soon coming to a resolution on his future now that the team has concluded its UEFA Champions League run. Not only is PSG interested in the full-back, but Serie A side Napoli is also keeping tabs on this situation. Per the report, Napoli has had an interest in such a deal since the beginning of the season.
The report concludes by mentioning that Castagne is eyeing a move to the Premier League. So far, Crystal Palace has been the only English team that has pursued the right-back, although negotiations for the talent fell through last year.
Atalanta will not settle on selling the Belgium talent for a fee less than €20 million, as it is aiming to cash in on his skyrocketing transfer value.
Castagne is coming off of a season where he recorded 33 appearances in all competitions. The defender did not factor much into Atalanta’s UEFA Champions League knockout stage run; he was benched for the round of 16 tie against Valencia and played in just eight total minutes against PSG in the single-legged quarterfinal. Still, he is a versatile right-back capable of slotting in as a wing-back as well.
For a €20 million transfer price tag, PSG could show serious interest in pursuing this bargain deal following its current Champions League run.
