Report: PSG Interested in Barcelona Defender

Paris Saint-Germain has been rumored to be keen on improving the depth of both full-back positions and now is eyeing one La Liga defender for the current opening over at right-back. The club is showing preliminary interest in Brazilian right-back Emerson, according to TuttoMercatoWeb. He is currently on loan with Real Betis, but his owned club Barcelona has an option to bring him back before his contract runs up in 2021.

The report mentions that Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, has inquired about the situation regarding Emerson. So far, PSG has not entered into deep transfer negotiations with Barcelona for the right-back.

While Emerson is currently with Betis, Serie A side AC Milan has also shown interest in acquiring the talent. Barcelona has responded by remaining firm in seeking at least €30 million, which would then be shared by the Catalan club and Betis based on a pre-agreed percentage.

Emerson totaled for 34 appearances in all competitions for Betis this past season. He has shown to be a versatile talent with the ability to play the traditional right-back position and also in more of an attacking role as a wing-back. He amounted for nine goal contributions for the club. It was his first season playing over in Europe and at the moment, he is slated to return to Betis in what will likely be his final season there.

With Thomas Meunier off to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, Leonardo may in line to acquire a right-back. At the moment, PSG has both Thilo Kehrer and Colin Dagba as options for the position. However, Leonardo currently has other positions in which need some solidifying over the summer transfer window, so it may be a while before he goes out to acquire a quality right-back. The club is surely seeking a long-term starter for the position.
