Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has been offered to AS Roma by agent Mino Raiola, according to the Italian-based outlet TuttoMercatoWeb (via Le10Sport).
Per the report, Raiola recently met with Roma CEO Guido Fienga, where the agent elected to offer Areola to the Serie A side. Still, the report does not make mention of advanced talks between Raiola and Roma on this matter. More so, PSG has not reached out to AS Roma to engage in such transfer negotiations.
Roma is in the market for a goalkeeper, although the club currently holds five different goal-stoppers on its roster. The Serie A side signed Pau Lopez last summer from Real Betis, and he made 42 appearances in all competitions this past season but recorded a low nine clean sheets. Areola would enter into competition with Lopez for Roma’s starting goalkeeper role next season if a deal were to materialize.
Areola is coming off of a season-long loan with Real Madrid where he logged nine appearances in all competitions. The French goalkeeper was between the posts during the team’s 4-3 Copa del Rey home loss to Real Sociedad. Overall, Real Madrid decided to not go all-out to further explore a possible buy option for the goalkeeper.
Areola is on a contract up until 2023, but his future may not reside with PSG. The Ligue 1 side is well set with Keylor Navas as its starter, and it also has four other goalkeepers to choose from for the backup role.
At the moment, no other clubs have been reported to show serious interest in a possible deal for Areola.
