Paris Saint-Germain has its eyes on pursuing a transfer deal for FC Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to a report from the Chilean-based outlet La Cuarta.
Per the report, PSG views Vidal as a “star signing” and would be willing to offer him a contract to complete a deal. PSG has already gone out of its ways to contact representatives of Vidal. A move away from Barca is no longer out of the question for Vidal, especially following the team’s recent 8-2 loss to FC Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal.
Vidal is set to become a free agent next year. At the moment, there have been no reports of Barca’s board engaging with representatives from Vidal’s camp on a possible contract extension. Even though a possible transfer deal for PSG would not be a high-priced one, the club would still have to deal with his reported €10 million annual salary.
The 33-year-old is coming off of an up-and-down campaign with the Catalan club. He did have his fair share of appearances but never became an established starter over the season. Off-field controversies also became a talking point over the campaign, such as with his decision to sue the club over a dispute with bonus payments.
If the club wishes to go on and sign the Chilean talent, manager Thomas Tuchel would likely use him as a rotational midfielder.
