A few days ago, The Telegraph reported over the interest of Chelsea FC in Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva. With the 35-year-old’s contract expiring at the end of August, the PSG captain is free to sign with any club for the 2020-21 season.
L’Equipe confirms the report from the English media outlet and is adding that discussion from both parties began three weeks ago.
With Chelsea already spending €53 million on Timo Werner and looking to spend a significant amount of money on Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
The Blues manager, Frank Lampard, is looking for a stop-gap defender, and Silva fits the mold as the Brazil international shows that he still has something left in the tank, and there’s no transfer fee.
Chelsea is hoping to add Silva as they’re looking to improve their defense as they were in the top ten in goals conceded.
Despite checking all the boxes for the Premier League club, the 35-year-old remains hopeful that there will be one last attempt at a contract extension with PSG.
