Paris Saint-Germain defender Juan Bernat could be available to start in the team’s friendly against Ligue 2 side Sochaux on Wednesday, according to a report from the French-based outlet Le Parisien.
Bernat missed all five of PSG’s fixtures in July due to muscle fatigue. With injury issues to Layvin Kurzawa, Bernat was slated to get the nod for the team’s duo of domestic cup finals but the muscle issues sidelined him from both contests. However, the Spanish defender did return to training last week after a lengthy absence.
According to the report, Bernat was also a full participant in Monday’s training session. If he can have another productive training session with no setbacks on Tuesday, the left-back may be in line to earn a start for the friendly against Sochaux. He will need it as a preparation game after being out of action since March.
With Bernat on par to be fit and ready to go for in-game action, he will provide manager Thomas Tuchel with another option for the starting left-back role in next week’s UEFA Champions League bout against Atalanta. As of late, Mitchel Bakker has taken over the role and chipped in with quality performances in the team’s two cup final wins. This dilemma for Tuchel could prove to be a key factor in whether PSG will move on to the semifinals.
