PSG’s Opening Fixture of Ligue 1 Season Could Be Rescheduled Pending Champions League Quarter-Final Result

The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) released the schedule for the 2020-2021 Ligue 1 season last month. At the moment, Paris Saint-Germain will begin its Ligue 1 title defense with a home fixture against FC Metz on Aug. 23. However, PSG could see the fixture postponed for another date pending its finish in the UEFA Champions League.

The LFP (via France Football) released on Saturday the full program for the opening weekend of the upcoming Ligue 1 season. It announced that if PSG goes on to beat Atalanta in the Champions League quarterfinal and thus advance to the semifinals on Aug. 18, Les Parisiens‘ fixture against Metz will be rescheduled to Sept. 16. But if PSG does not defeat the Serie A side, the reigning Ligue 1 champions will return from Portugal and begin prepping for the fixture against Metz, which will be the final game of matchday 1.

PSG sure does hope that it will not have to face Metz as soon as this month.
