Mauro Icardi States the Joining PSG Was the Best Decisions

After burning bridges at Inter Milan, Mauro Icardi arrived on loan to Paris Saint-Germain. It was a make or break year for the 27-year-old, who was looking to prove that he’s still the same striker that scored 29 goals in Serie A during the 2017-18 season.

Icardi began his loan stint behind Edinson Cavani; however, the Argentina international began to take over the striker position. In 33 appearances, he scored 20 goals for Les Parisiens. Despite having substantial numbers, there’s still room for improvement.

Before the pandemic caused Ligue 1 and the rest of European football to shut down, Icardi struggled to find the back of the net. In PSG’s return-leg fixture against Borussia Dortmund, Icardi found himself on the bench with Edinson Cavani starting instead.

Once matches resumed, the striker struggled to find his form, which led to Icardi seeing no action during the semi-finals and finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Despite his struggles and benching, Icardi remains positive as he stated on Instagram that joining PSG is the best decision of his career. The Ligue 1 champions decided to exercise the option to buy clause as they spent €50 million to make the 27-year-old the heir apparent to Cavani.

“A year ago, I made the decision to change, to do something new, and discover something new. Today, a year later, here we are, with our heads held high in what we have done, what we have trained, and what we will continue to build from today. I don’t have the words to thank them for all the love they have given me and for making this decision a year ago, which is the best decision today of my life,” Icardi said.

Now that Icardi knows his adventure in Paris is continuing, hopefully, it will allow him to find a consistent form that will allow him to build off his 20 goal campaign.
