The upcoming 2020 UEFA Champions League Final between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern Munich has been hyped up for days and billed as a contest that will be one of the biggest in years. For PSG, this final will be a monumental one in the club’s history and a fulfilling one after numerous failed attempts to reach the Champions League final in previous seasons.
The difference for PSG from this season’s Champions League run to ones in previous years comes down to a number of factors. For one, former PSG midfielder Safet Susic talked (via So Foot) about the two key reasons for why the club has had major success in this season’s competition.
“This season, PSG have benefited from a good draw: Dortmund, Atalanta, then Leipzig,” Susic explained. “Opponents who were takeable, in a configuration without supporting, in a single match, something completely different from the usual formula of the Champions League. The big plus for PSG was being able to count on Neymar in important matches.”
Susic is a big fan of Neymar. The former French league winner talked about Neymar’s world-class talent and just what makes the Brazilian a player to watch.
“He has all the qualities,” Susic said. “He is exceptional one on one, one on two. Even in one on three, he is able to eliminate his opponents. He sees everything. And above all, it is collective. He has a very good ability to make the last pass.”
The former PSG midfielder also previewed the Champions League final between the two powerhouse sides. He thinks that the final will come down to the play from key talents rather than the tactical decisions from both managers.
“Bayern have more experience, but in a final it will depend on the key players in each team,” Susic said. “If we still have an exceptional Neymar, an exceptional Mbappe, a Di María at his level, PSG can win. It’s going to be a very open game, with a lot of chances and a lot of goals, I hope.”
The expectation from Susic and other former players is that the final will be a high-scoring and thrilling fixture to watch.
