In what should be a fixture for the ages, Paris Saint-Germain will square off against FC Bayern Munich in the 2020 UEFA Champions League Final on Aug. 23.
Not much separates PSG and Bayern. They each have a number of world-class attacking talents and also provide for some entertaining football to watch. Even former PSG manager Antoine Kombouare is having a difficult time choosing a favorite in the contest. Kombouare recently managed in Ligue 1 over the years, so he is familiar with the current PSG side but has no experience in going up against Bayern. In speaking to the RMC Football Show, Kombouare did not give his Champions League final prediction but note on which side he will be rooting for.
“It’s a tough final, no one can say who will win it,” Kombouare said. “Of course, when you’re a Parisian, you want our team to win, but the two are equal.”
Kombouare watched Bayern’s semifinal performance against Olympique Lyonnais. He does not think that Bayern is completely unbeatable because of a few vulnerabilities, but still knows that PSG will have to head into the final with a strong mentality.
“We saw against OL that Bayern has flaws behind, and even in the middle, since they had trouble recovering the balls,” Kombouare said. “They let the Lyonnais play, which was quite surprising. They left a lot of space.
“We will also have to be very strong defensively for PSG. It is difficult to decide between the two on paper. You will have to look Bayern in the eye in any case.”
PSG is looking to clinch a historic quadruple-winning season, while Bayern has its eyes set on yet another treble-winning campaign.
