‘It’s a Shame That It Ended Like That’ — Former PSG Forward Pauleta on Cavani’s Departure From the Club

Paris Saint-Germain will play in its first-ever UEFA Champions League Final next week when it meets FC Bayern Munich, and one club legend will not accompany the Ligue 1 side on its trip for the match.

Former PSG forward Edinson Cavani left the club earlier this summer when his contract expired. He decided to decline an offer from PSG’s board that would have prolonged his stay at the club for the remainder of its Champions League knockout stage run, as he instead opted to begin his search to find a new team.

Not everyone was pleased with how Cavani’s PSG tenure ended, including former club forward Pedro Miguel Pauleta. In speaking to RMC Sport (via Planete PSG), Pauleta touched on his disappointment that Cavani’s PSG career did not end with a deep Champions League run.

“It’s a shame that it ended like that,” Pauleta said. “He deserved to be there to play this Champions League, and Paris deserved to stay. It’s a shame. He’s a player who gave a lot for the club, an important player.”

Pauleta also gave his prediction on where Cavani will end up next.

“I think he will come to Portugal, to Benfica, and that he will bring enormous quality,” Pauleta said. “But sincerely, as a former player of PSG and as a supporter of Paris, I find that too bad. He is a player who has marked the history of PSG.”

Cavani surely will be rooting for PSG to defeat Bayern in the upcoming Champions League final.
