French Football Pundit Discusses the Importance of Marco Verratti to PSG

Marco Verratti was one of the better players for Paris Saint-Germain in their Coupe de la Ligue final win over Olympique Lyonnais. Furthermore, the 27-year-old was named man of the match. 

Against Lyon, Verratti was commanding the midfield. In 120 minutes played, SofaScore credited the Italy international had 114 touches with 76 accurate passes and a success rate of 87-percent. On the ground, Verratti completed seven of nine dribbles and won 14 of his 21 ground duels. 

This performance has led to Canal Football Club analyst Pierre Ménès discussing the importance of Verratti to Les Parisiens. In his Canal Plus blog, the 57-year-old highlighted Neymar Jr. and the Italian midfielder as PSG’s best players against Lyon. Furthermore, he added that Verratti is as crucial to the capital club squad as Kylian Mbappé. 

“In this context, I found Neymar very interesting. The other great individual satisfaction of the evening on the PSG side is Verratti, who delivered a remarkable match and did not seem to decline physically over the course of the match. At this level, the little Italian is essential to this team.”

With the potential for no Mbappé because of his ankle injury and Ángel Di María already ruled out due to suspension. Verratti will be one of the players that will help Neymar create in the attack against Atalanta BC.
