Paris Saint-Germain’s recent hunt for a center-back has reportedly shifted over towards the Bundesliga. But this time around, it is manager Thomas Tuchel who is eyeing one former foe. According to Sport Bild (via France Football) earlier this week, the German manager is hoping the board will be able to acquire Bayern Munich defender David Alaba. The center-back is set to become a free agent next year.
However, one key figure within Bayern is hoping that the club will be able to agree on a contract extension with Alaba. In an exclusive interview with Sport 1, Bayern manager Hansi Flick talked about his aspirations that the defender will stay on with the reigning Bundesliga champions.
“We can all handle the situation very well and David still has one year on his contract,” Flick said. “We all want David to extend. And of course, I hope he does too.”
Flick also provided some analysis on Alaba’s play and his overall impact as a stout defender.
“David is very important to me because we need very high quality,” Flick said. “He’s done really well in the last few months and has become a leader. He’s got the quality for that: he’s very good at building up the game and also against the ball. With the ball, he drives our game forward and plays good passes into the top. That’s just great.”
A versatile defender like Alaba would be a valuable addition to PSG, especially now that the club is set to lose longtime center-back Thiago Silva later this month. However, no talks have been reported on a possible Alaba transfer between PSG and Bayern.
