Defensive midfielder Adrien Tameze has finished up his half-season loan with Atalanta and is now on his way back to Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.
Atalanta released a statement on its official website about the decision that read, “Atalanta BC announces the return for loan end of the player Adrien Tameze to Nice. The club thanks the French midfielder for the commitment and professionalism offered in these months.”
Atalanta decided not to pursue a possible agreement with Nice that would prolong Tameze’s stay until the end of the upcoming UEFA Champions League knockout stage. Thus, he will miss the quarterfinal fixture between Atalanta and Paris Saint-Germain.
Tameze made just nine appearances while with Atalanta. He did feature in the team’s Champions League round of 16 tie against La Liga side Valencia but only played in eight minutes over the two games.
The loss of Tameze for Atalanta is not one that could end up being the deciding game-changing factor in its single-legged tie against PSG. Still, the Italian side will have to look elsewhere for midfield depth, especially since a maximum of five substitutions will now be allowed per game for the rest of this season’s Champions League tournament.
