Atalanta Midfielder Skeptical of Mbappe and Verratti’s Availability for Champions League Quarter-Final Fixture

An injury crisis has hit Paris Saint-Germain at an unfortunate time. At the moment, no player has been officially ruled out for the upcoming duel against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal. But it is not looking good for some players. Forward Kylian Mbappe is currently ruled out of action due to an ankle sprain, while midfielder Marco Verratti is dealing with a calf injury.

Both players remain questionable for the contest. Still, one Atalanta talent is not fully convinced that both players will miss out on the fixture. Midfielder Remo Freuler recently spoke to the Italian-based outlet Eco di Bergamo (via TuttoMercatoWeb) and talked about why he is skeptical on both players’ availability for the contest.

“I know that Di Maria will be missing due to disqualification, but that Mbappe will not be in the match, I will only be convinced when I don’t see him on the pitch,” Freuler said. “Just like Verratti and all the others, there is a quarter of Champions to play, no one ever wants to stay out.”

Freuler also talked about what is motivating Atalanta heading into the fixture. He hopes to pull off the upset and do it for the fans back home who will be tuning in.

“We play with and for Bergamo, that gives us extra strength,” Freuler said. “This region has suffered so much, we know it all too well in the team, it gives us extra motivation when we are on the pitch. This was the case in Serie A, it will still be the case in Lisbon.”

Atalanta is eyeing its first-ever semifinal appearance in the competition.
