Atalanta is currently enjoying what has been its most memorable campaign in years. The club finished third in the final Serie A standings this past season and is in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal for the first time in team history. It has been a season lauded by opposing players and managers.
Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon has been with the team for its best moments over the campaign this year. In speaking to Italy’s Sky Sport (via CalcioMercato), De Roon reflected on the season and spoke about the team’s current Champions League run.
“Obviously, qualification is something we couldn’t dream of, especially after the first three games, but we can’t wait since we qualified for the Champions League quarterfinals in March,” De Roon said. “The wait has been long, but now we are focused on this final eight.”
Paris Saint-Germain will be awaiting Atalanta in the Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday. He knows that PSG is a quality team in the attack and defense but is confident in what his side can produce.
“PSG are a very strong team, but it is obvious that we could not have been lucky with the draw at this point in the event,” De Roon said. “They are very strong but we must do our best. we proved that if we have a good day we can beat anyone.”
Both teams sure are voicing their confidence ahead of the contest.
