The coronavirus pandemic has turned the football world upside down.
First, there are no fans in the stadiums, or if they are any, it’s a limited capacity with mask and social distancing requirements. Then there’s the business side where clubs will cautiously spend on transfer targets as the pandemic affected plenty of team’s income.
Despite all the changes, there’s one thing that will remain the same: over-analyzing when a transfer target follows a club’s social media account or player on that squad—trying to figure out what exactly it means.
A few days ago, RMC Sport tweeted that Arsenal FC had offered right-back Héctor Bellerín to Paris Saint-Germain. With the departure of Thomas Meunier, the capital club needs to replace the outgoing Belgium international, so the Spain international makes sense as a potential target.
If anyone wants to think there’s any smoke to this rumor, all anyone has to do is check Instagram. Bellerín is now following PSG’s sporting director, which is a bit odd considering the 50-year-old has only has one post on his account.
Does this mean anything?
Maybe, maybe not, but it does feel like a sense of normalcy is back to the football world even though it’s an aspect of the transfer window that makes most people shake their heads.
