After browsing social media following the UEFA Champions League draw, it’s become clear that Atalanta are the new darlings of everyone who isn’t a Paris Saint-Germain supporter.
The treatment of the upstart Serie A club is approaching Erling Haaland levels. Pundits and opposing fans would love to see PSG crash out of the quarter-finals to a team that has a microscopic budget compared to the French giants and Atalanta could do it.
The Italian club currently sits in third place in Serie A and they’re undefeated in their last seven league matches. They advanced past Valencia to reach the quarter-finals but as good as they’ve been, they haven’t really gone up against an attack like PSG’s.
PSG fans aren’t “sleeping” on Atalanta, but it’s certainly a better draw than having to play FC Barcelona, FC Bayern Munich, or Manchester City. Simply saying that shouldn’t be taken as overlooking Atalanta.
Here are the best responses to the draw on social media. Let us know what you think of the match against Atalanta in the comments or on social media @PSGTalk.

Having said that, you would obvs prefer to be on our side of the draw. If we’re ever going to do something in the Champions League we’re unlikely to get a better opportunity. All to play for. #PSG

Could have been so much worse, I know there are no easy games at this stage but your not going to get a better chance to make a final, avoiding Man City Bayern Munich Juventus Barcelona you have to pretty happy

Atalanta-PSG | a team that loves nothing more than a come back against a team that, well, you know…
— James Horncastle (@JamesHorncastle) July 10, 2020
No City or Bayern for PSG until the final. I’m content.

PSG fans who think they got a good draw with Atalanta are like the family in Parasite who didn’t know there was someone hiding in the basement

How can you see an Atalanta vs PSG draw and your immediate takeaway is to wonder how PSG’s defence will cope with Atalanta’s attack?
It’s so weird.

When you see Real Madrid, Man City, Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern are all in the other half of the draw 😄 pic.twitter.com/tHdhdQmJLt

Atalanta will be loving all this talk about ‘PSGs’ path. You do not want to play this team, especially if you haven’t had a competitive game in several months. 6 wins from 6 since the restart, 15 goals scored. If they can keep guys fit, I’m taking Atalanta in this tie. #UCL

PSG and Atalanta should just play without goalkeepers cos no need
— °ɴᴇᴏ (@UncleShukura) July 10, 2020
For all the talk of Atalanta as a sneaky pick over PSG because they’re red hot and talented while PSG haven’t had minutes in awhile….don’t forget there are really no potent attacks in Serie A like PSGs, not even close. Atalanta was flattened when they had to play one in City.

Atalanta – with a Championship mid-table budget whose strategy on the pitch is the equivalent of a pantera album, and is currently on a roll in Serie A- faces a PSG side who hasn’t played a competitive game since March.
Oooooh baby. https://t.co/w4p1dRcQe4

People thinking Atalanta is going to be easy! 😭

I’d certainly feel more confident if we were playing in the league and finding out stride but we’ll have 5 matches to get ready and 2 of them will be cup finals, one against a UCL opponent. I think we’ll be plenty ready.
