Video: Marco Verratti on Winning the Coupe de la Ligue and Preparing to Face Atalanta

Along with Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel, Marco Verratti took part in the press conference before the Coupe de la Ligue final against Olympique Lyonnais.

One of the first questions Verratti answered was over a fear of a potential injury after witnessing Kylian Mbappé suffer an ankle injury last week in the Coupe de France final against AS Saint-Etienne.

“ We play football, and that can happen, especially with these four months off. We had never experienced that,” Verratti said. “We’re playing an important game, and I think everyone will be 100% successful in winning this final against a great team.”

Another question was over the motivation to win the Coupe de la Ligue, considering this will be the last edition of this tournament

“It’s a goal like with all trophies. We will do everything to win it. We were often in the final,” Verratti said. “I’m happy to play against OL because it’s an important team in French football with a good squad. I hope it will be a good final for the spectators and for us.”

Finally, the questions shift over to their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal matchup against Atalanta BC. However, Verratti does state that their mind is on the Coupe de la Ligue final.

“We have four finals, as Neymar said. These are important matches. You have to be focused. You can get out of the competition or lose in the final,” Verratti said. “So we will need everyone and play each match in the best conditions. We are thinking of tomorrow’s game, the most important one, and after that, we will think of our game against Atalanta.”

Then the French media asked Verratti over Mbappé’s injury.

“We were very disappointed. Even though we won, we had a thought for him,” Verratti said. “A player like Kylian starts on any team, and he will be missed. He’s an amazing boy with a smile. He will work hard to get back as soon as possible.”
