Silva Denies Rumor of Resumed Contract Talks With PSG

On Monday, TuttoMercatoWeb reported that Paris Saint-Germain had resumed contract talks with Thiago Silva.

The Brazilian defender was slated to leave the club earlier in the summer as a free agent but decided to extend his contract for only another two months. This will give him the opportunity to possibly leave on a high note with a potential three more trophies to add to his career resume, including the UEFA Champions League title.

However, any such report revolving around contract extension talks between the two sides that would keep PSG’s captain at the club past this season appear to not be the case at all. Silva denied the reports on Instagram by leaving a comment that read “it’s not true” under a post that made mention of the report.

Silva had reportedly been interested in prolonging his PSG career, but the two sides did not reach an agreement. Thus, Silva will become a free agent following PSG’s Champions League run in August, which would then grant him the ability to sign with any club on a free transfer. At the age of 35, he still has much to offer and can still be a valuable addition to a contending team in Europe’s top five leagues.

Now, there is always the possibility that the club and Silva agree to a short-term contract extension. But at the moment, this is not looking to be the case.
