Every season in the UEFA Champions League, one team makes a deep run that no one expected would have happened before the tournament. This season, many are betting that Atalanta may be that team.
The Atalanta bandwagon is getting full, and former Italian national team manager Cesare Prandelli is among those expressing full confidence in Atalanta’s chances against Paris Saint-Germain. In an interview with the Italian-based Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Canal Supporters), Prandelli believes that Atalanta has a good chance to pull off the upset because of its attacking play style and pressing system.
“Of course Atalanta can qualify,” Prandelli said. “Today, in a dry match, they can beat any European team. Atalanta will play a very high-level match, as it did against Juve. The shock against the Bianconeri confirmed that Atalanta would play in Lisbon as it always does, without being afraid of anyone. The most technical teams suffer from their counter-pressing and their continuous intensity.”
Prandelli is also siding with Atalanta because of his confidence that they will be well-trained and prepared for the match.
“For its part, Atalanta will arrive on August 12 trained, not tired,” Prandelli said. “The more they run, the more they have fun!”
Atalanta has received much support as of late, with many hoping they can pull off a grand feat in reaching the Champions League final. Nonetheless, PSG remains the favorites to advance to its first semifinal appearance in decades.
