The Barcelona Player Who Grew Up a PSG Supporter

FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been waging a war ever since Neymar Jr. left Spain in 2017 for a record-breaking transfer fee but there’s one player who has a soft spot for the Ligue 1 champions.

In a recent interview with L’Equipe, Barcelona defender, Clément Lenglet, admitted that he grew up a PSG fan and that he even got to meet a few stars of the team back in the day.

“As a kid, I was a real supporter of PSG. My father even took me to Camp des Loges to attend training. I remember meeting Ronaldinho, Pauleta, and other great players who made history there.”

“But that was when I was young. Since I became a professional, everything has evolved. When I started at Nancy, I was in the same Championship as Paris. I couldn’t stand a team I was playing against. And when you go through clubs with a very strong identity like Seville or Barca, you necessarily become a fan.”

When asked if he would prefer a Barcelona-PSG final, Lenglet responded, “A Barca-PSG final would be a dream…Finally, provided that Barca wins it, of course.

With Barcelona’s financial issues, PSG may be able to really rub salt into the wound and take Lenglet off their hands. I hardly doubt he would pass on the opportunity to play for his boyhood club. Plus, with Tanguy Kouassi and Thiago Silva leaving the club, PSG could use veteran center-back to add to the squad.

If Lenglet gets his way and PSG meets Barcelona in the Champions League final, the ultimate bragging rights will be on the line. After three months of no football, we deserve a final as tantalizing as that.
