Paris Saint-Germain was in action on Tuesday as they battled Celtic FC at the Parc des Princes and came away with the 4-0 victory.
It was the last exhibition match before the two domestic cup finals to close out the month of July and the team far exceeded even the most optimistic fan’s expectations.
On this episode of The 1970, I’m joined as always by Marc Damon and we discuss PSG’s three friendlies (Le Havre, Waasland-Beveren, and Celtic) in which the Ligue 1 champions won by a combined score of 20-0.
The opponents were obviously far below PSG’s quality but considering the four-month layoff due to the coronavirus, it’s impressive that PSG’s biggest stars were able to flip the switch and score goals seemingly at will.
What we’ve yet to learn is whether or not the players are match fit and how they will react when a team puts them under pressure offensively. Those questions may not be answered until the Coupe de la Ligue final against Olympique Lyonnais on July 31.
The other big news in the world of PSG was the release of the 2020-21 home kit, which the players wore against Celtic. Not only are we both fans of the jersey, but we’re even bigger fans of the partnership with Fanatics. This deal will make it easier for fans in the United States to purchase PSG gear without paying lofty shipping costs from France.
Everyone expected Kylian Mbappé to stay another season at PSG and the French superstar confirmed as much on Twitter and during halftime of the match against Celtic. Does this mean an extension is soon to follow or his this a smokescreen as the 21-year-old prepares for a move to Real Madrid?
The show concludes with us answering questions sent it via Twitter.
