Alphonse Areola isn’t expecting to remain as a backup for the 2020-21 season. The 27-year-old has his agent, Mino Raiola, working the phones to find a club where he will be the starting goalkeeper.
Furthermore, with Thibaut Courtois manning goal at Real Madrid and no future waiting for him when he returns from his loan spell to Paris Saint-Germain, Areola understands that he will be playing somewhere else soon.
The France international is seeing his name linked to Chelsea FC and Newcastle United FC. After purchasing a home in London, there was speculation that Chelsea would be the club that he’d go to for next season. However, there’s another club in the Premier League bidding for his services.
According to Paris Fans, Arsenal FC is looking at bringing Areola to North London. Bernd Leno and Emiliano Martínez are the two goalkeepers for The Gunners. However, none have experience playing for big clubs or matches as Areola has in the past.
With the potential to start for France at next year’s UEFA European Championships, Areola is looking to play at a club where he will garner attention. Despite Arsenal floundering in the middle of the table, they’re in the Premier League, so there will be plenty of eyes.
