PSG Medical Update: Mbappe to be Reevaluated After Suffering Serious Ankle Sprain

Paris Saint-Germain announced medical updates on Saturday for Kylian Mbappe, Thilo Kehrer, and Juan Bernat.

Of course, the main headline from PSG’s Coupe de France final win was the injury of Kylian Mbappe. The forward was on the wrong end of a sliding tackle from AS Saint-Etienne defender Loïc Perrin and left the final in the first half. Mbappe was clearly in pain and manager Thomas Tuchel subsequently subbed him off.

PSG posted on its official club website that the Frenchman has a “serious right ankle sprain to the external lateral compartment.” The good news is that there is no serious ligament damage, but the club is still concerned over the extent of the injury. He will be reevaluated in 72 hours.

Mbappe was not the only PSG player who had to leave the cup final early due to injury. Kehrer left during the first half due to a hip injury. The club announced that he has a right hip bone bruise and will be unavailable for the next four to five days. This may end up ruling him out for the upcoming Coupe de la Ligue final against Olympique Lyonnais next week.

Juan Bernat missed the final due to muscle fatigue but is set to be a full participant in training on Monday. Abdou Diallo is also projected back for training next week.

PSG sure hopes that these players will be healthy and ready to go for the UEFA Champions League knockout stage next month.
