Piquionne Praises Silva’s Experience and Leadership Over his PSG Career

Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva will leave the club following the team’s UEFA Champions League knockout stage run next month. When a player of Silva’s caliber is set to leave a team following a lengthy and memorable run, it is fitting to reflect on the great moments and impact left behind.

Former French forward Frederic Piquionne spoke to RMC Sport (via Canal Supporters) on just that. He went on about Silva’s grand influence as a locker room leader over his tenure with PSG.

“His aura in the locker room, which he has been doing for eight years and during his career is something extraordinary,” Piquionne said. “The experience of a locker room [leader] like that, no one can do without.“

Like many, Piquionne wished that Silva would carry on with the club. He would have liked the current team captain to return for another season on the contingent that the Brazilian agree on a couple of key aspects regarding his stature with the team.

“Extending him for a season, it would have been a good thing if he had agreed to have a little bit of playing time and lowered his salary,” Piquionne said.

For now, Silva is set for his last Coupe de France final later this week.
