Leonardo Fires Back at Lyon Executive Who Was Critical of Neymar

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Olympique Lyonnais sporting director, Juninho, was critical of Neymar Jr. The former midfielder called out the 28-year-old as the latest Brazilian footballer to be blinded by greed.

These comments didn’t take long to reach Paris Saint-Germain sporting director, Leonardo. The Brazilian executive reacted to Juninho’s comments on RMC Sport and he didn’t hold back at all.

“I don’t understand why Aulas talks so much about PSG, and Juninho now talks about Paris and Neymar,” Leonardo said. “It would be better to talk about their club. We are not talking about the OL situation, and I ask OL not to talk about our players and our club, it is a matter of respect.”

When you read the entire interview, the comments that Juninho made aren’t egregious. It’s not a statement from a “hater” as some might interpret these quotes. However, if Lyon’s sporting director does believe there’s a culture of greed and wanting more money, why single out Neymar? He’s hardly the only footballer who is well compensated. Either make a blanket statement on that matter or use several examples…or don’t say anything at all.

PSG and Lyon will face each other in the Coupe de la Ligue final on July 31, and you can bet both Juninho and Leonardo will be asked about the situation with Neymar.
