It is safe to say that Paris Saint-Germain’s board officials and coaching staff have been pleased with Mauro Icardi’s production this season. Over his debut campaign with PSG, he has scored 20 goals in all competitions, which is his third 20-goal season in the last four years.
This is why the club decided to go ahead and trigger a transfer deal to acquire him from Inter Milan.
Overall, Icardi is enjoying what has been a promising year with PSG. In speaking to PSG TV, he reflected back on his overall season thus far. The 27-year-old spoke about the amazement he had during his first career appearance with Les Parisiens.
“It was impressive from the first moment,” Icardi said. “When I went out to warm up for the first time, I was very well received. It is important for a player to feel the fans, the shouts and the songs.”
The highlight of Icardi’s season has undoubtedly been his double against Olympique de Marseille in Le Classique. He scored both goals over the first half in the team’s 4-0 home win over its bitter rivals. This was a performance that the Argentine will soon not forget.
“To score two goals in the first Le Classique was a unique emotion,” Icardi said. “I like to play in the classics and the games are beautiful and important matches in the championship. I have already experienced other classics while having the opportunity to score goals and to play my first classic in France was emotional.”
Icardi will have an opportunity to make the season even more memorable with triumphs in PSG’s two domestic cup finals and over the Champions League knockout stage.
