‘He Was Just Trying To Wind People Up’ — Celtic Manager On What It Was Like To Face Neymar

Neymar has had some of the most prolific showings of his career against Celtic FC. For instance, he recorded one goal and four assists against the Scottish powerhouse while with FC Barcelona in a UEFA Champions League group stage contest back in 2016. In his debut season with PSG, he notched five total goal contributions against the Scottish club over two Champions League group stage fixtures.

In the Tuesday friendly contest between PSG and Celtic, Neymar provided another superb performance against the Scottish side. He recorded a goal and an assist coupled with several highlight-filled sequences. Fans in attendance at the Parc des Princes were in awe of the showing, but not everyone was sharing the same feeling.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon noted following the game (via Daily Record) on his thoughts about the Brazilian and how he had his side prepare for facing the world-class talent.

“He was just trying to wind people up,” Lennon said. “I said to the players you just have to keep your discipline and not take the bait really. He is infuriating, but he knows it.”

While Lennon is not in favor of how Neymar operates with the ball on the pitch, he did offer praise to Kylian Mbappe. Lennon was in awe of the Frenchman’s skill and speed.

“I’m a big fan of Kylian Mbappe because I think he’s fantastic in terms of his purpose and his pace,” Lennon said. “They’ve got quality all over the pitch.”

This performance from Neymar and Mbappe was their last before the Coupe de France final later this week.
