Choupo-Moting Opens Up About the Dynamics in the PSG Dressing Room

The media never misses an opportunity to portray the Paris Saint-Germain dressing room in a negative light. Despite what past players like Yuri Berchiche have said about his experience, there’s a narrative behind these stories.

Although he’s departing at the end of August when his contract expires, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting gave a glimpse behind and into the PSG dressing room in his interview with France Football.

The 31-year-old spoke about arriving into the room back in 2018 from Stoke City and being starstruck by his teammates. However, although the squad is filled with some of the best footballers in the world, Choupo-Moting added that it didn’t take him long to befriend the players.

“At the beginning, when I didn’t know them well, they were stars. After two weeks here, they were teammates and even friends because we get along very well,” Choupo-Moting said. “We laugh together. And then, they integrated me very well too. It was easy for me.”

PSG’s backup striker continued by saying that he’s often asked about life with these superstars. The Cameroon international added that although the squad is full of elite players, they don’t let their egos get in the way.

“From the outside, everyone thinks: “Oh, there, there, how is it, to live with these big stars?” For me, we have players who are among the top five in the world. But, when we’re together, we don’t think about that. It’s normal. We talk and joke together, and it’s no longer something extraordinary,” Choupo-Moting said.

“We’re like friends. I think we have the best-attacking sector in the world, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar are among the five best players. But it is also a motivation. I don’t want to “steal their place” but to bring something.”

This type of behavior is seen in the photos of the group that attended the birthday party of Leandro Paredes and celebrated Bastille Day. Despite what others will say, the PSG dressing room is far from toxic.
