Capello Believes Atalanta’s Form Will Present Difficulties for PSG

Ever since Paris Saint-Germain drew Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, there’s a belief that the Italian club could pull off the upset.

Last Sunday, Atalanta stood toe-to-toe with Juventus FC on the road in Turin. Furthermore, La Dea, on two different occasions, held the lead. However, they couldn’t come away with a win. Despite the draw, it showed that their squad isn’t intimidated by any big club.

The matchup against PSG in the Champions League is a single-game knockout format and many variables can sway a win towards Atalanta. The Italian club is riding its momentum into the match next month. With PSG trying to get their legs ready through friendlies, some think this will be a crucial factor.

Someone who thinks this is an essential factor that benefits Atalanta is former Juve and AC Milan midfielder Fabio Capello. The 74-year-old talked with Radio Rai (via ParisFans) over who he sees as the favorite and how the matchup will play out.

“The Gasperini team knows its value, they have a great desire, with the city, to do great things. The confinement brought them even closer. They run and give themselves to the maximum. PSG is not an easy opponent to face,” said Capello. “Mbappé and Neymar are very strong in the one on one. It will be difficult to stop them. It will also depend on what form the French team arrives at this match. With its physical density, Atalanta can put PSG in difficulty.”

PSG’s match with Atalanta is one of the more highly anticipated matches but anyone who claims to know what will happen is being disingenuous. There are far too many that can change between now and then to pick a winner right at this moment.
