Sandro Tonali is a player who makes a lot of sense for Paris Saint-Germain but unfortunately, the Brescia midfielder doesn’t see himself in Ligue 1 any time soon.
In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Massimo Cellino, the president of Brescia, confirmed PSG’s interest in the 20-year-old but stated his player does not want to leave his home country of Italy.
“Nasser [Al-Khelaifi] would like [Tonali] in Paris, he wrote to me eve today, but he doesn’t want to go to France. Inter and Juve are the destinations he prefers.”
The news comes as Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, looks to find a tall midfielder to add to the squad for next season. Tonali, who stands at 5’11”, was an interesting transfer target because of his potential and the similarity to current PSG player and Italy international Marco Verratti. It was even thought that Verratti could help recruit Tonali but the allure of UEFA Champions League football and playing with Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr. wasn’t good enough for Tonali.
There’s still plenty of other options available so I’m not too concerned about PSG missing out on Tonali. If PSG can sign a player like Sergej Milinković-Savić from Lazio, fans will soon forget all about Tonali.
