Report: Silva Considering a Previous Offer From PSG to Remain With Club

Earlier this week, it was reported that Paris Saint-Germain notified Thiago Silva that they didn’t intend to offer him a new contract and that the club’s captain would be free to leave at the end of the season.

Silva’s current contract expires on June 30, so technically, there’s still time to negotiate and that’s the premise of a report from Le10Sport. They claim that a previous offer from Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, is still valid and that Silva may now consider accepting it now that he knows the club is prepared to move on without him.

That deal, according to Le10Sport, would offer Silva a salary between €4 million and €5 million per year. Currently, the Brazil international earns a gross monthly salary of €1.5 million, so, he would take a significant pay cut if he remains in the French capital.

At 35-years-old, it’s safe to say that no club in the world will offer Silva a similar salary to what he earns currently from PSG. The question Silva has to ask himself is, does he want to take a pay cut with a club like AC Milan or Everton, or, remain at PSG with some of the best players in the world and compete in the UEFA Champions League every season. The fact that Silva is a French citizen can’t be overlooked as well.

This is a development worth keeping an eye on and if it turns out that Silva does agree to accept a greatly reduced salary, it would be a stunning reversal that could benefit the club greatly next season.

Whether Silva extends for a couple of more seasons or not, he is expected to sign a short-term extension in order to compete in the Champions League when the competition resumes in August.
