Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo reports that Edinson Cavani wants to play in Spain once his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expires, but he won’t go there at all costs.
European clubs continue to have an interest in him and at 33-years-old, Cavani understands that this will be the last significant payday of his career. Although he has a preference for heading to La Liga, he won’t sacrifice his salary to go there.
With interest from Inter Milan, Newcastle United, and even Manchester United, the Uruguay international knows that he can create a bidding war for his services. Nonetheless, it seems as though Cavani has his heart set on playing in Spain, preferably with Atlético Madrid.
After a failed move to Los Colchoneros in January, president of Atlético, Enrique Cerezo, spoke about why the deal fell through and laid the blame at the feet of Walter Fernando, the step-brother, and representative of El Matador, who wanted an €18 million agent fee from the Spanish club.
We’ll see if both sides can let bygones be bygones and revisit this potential deal in a few weeks.
