Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s Paris Saint-Germain adventure will not go beyond June 30, when his contract expires.
According to RMC Sport journalist Saber Desfarges, Choupo-Moting will join Thiago Silva in leaving the French capital as PSG has decided to not offer the striker an extension.
Choupo-Moting was not included in PSG’s UEFA Champions League squad and he won’t sign a temporary extension to be available for the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue final He will resume training on June 22, and then a few days later, clean out his locker and look for a new team.
This season, Choupo-Moting scored five goals in 17 appearances and will wrap up his career at PSG with 48 appearances, eight goals, and three assists since he arrived in 2018 from Stoke City FC.
The Cameroonian’s departure does present a problem for PSG at the striker position. Sure, they have Icardi and he is a world-class striker, but with Edinson Cavani also expected to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires, the club has a serious deficiency of strikers should Icardi go down with an injury. Look for Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, to address this issue in the upcoming transfer window.
