Leaked Audio Lands Neymar in Serious Legal Trouble

Well, we almost made it through this extended layoff without any negative news involving Neymar Jr., but this week came a report that Paris Saint-Germain’s superstar has been accused of discrimination for a comment he allegedly made about his mother’s boyfriend.

According to the Daily Mail, Nadine Gonçalves, Neymar’s 53-year-old mother, and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Tiago Ramos, had a dispute that led to Ramos punching a window and cutting himself on a piece of glass. The injury required a trip to the hospital and stitches and a visit from the police.

Following the altercation, audio of a conversation that allegedly features Neymar’s voice was leaked and has led to accusations of discrimination by an LGBT group in Brazil.

The audio was originally shared on Twitch, a video game streaming service, and published by Leo Dias on the Metropoles program according to Marca. The conversation purportedly captures Neymar calling Ramos a very offensive homophobic word and he also allegedly agreed with his friend, whom he was talking with, that someone should stick a broomstick inside…well, I think you can figure out the rest.

A video of the conversation was posted on YouTube.

RT News reports that the LGBT Association in Brazil has moved forward with legal action against Neymar where they claim that his comments were discriminatory and threatened Ramos with bodily harm. A portion of the note sent to the Brazilian Public Ministry from the group reads as follows:

“…by reporting that the mother’s boyfriend is bisexual, he [Neymar] and his friends hinted at the possibility of assaulting a gay man, including the insertion of a broom into the anus of the mother’s boyfriend.”

This is obviously a very serious situation with serious consequences for Neymar and it comes at a time when the 28-year-old was preparing to return to Paris to resume training at the end of the month. It’s unclear if this situation will impact Neymar’s ability to leave the country (where he’s been since last March due to the coronavirus) but as soon as we hear more we’ll report on it.
