Now that Mauro Icardi will be staying with Paris Saint-Germain permanently, the capital club’s sporting director, Leonardo, will try to address the midfield.
The Brazilian hopes to add some height to the position as all the midfielders on the squad are below 6’0″, which is why Les Parisiens are targeting Lazio’s Sergej Milinković-Savić.
However, Canal Plus journalist Pierre Ménès answered a few questions on Pierrot Face Cam section (via ParisFans) over the possibility of PSG landing the 25-year-old and expressed some doubt over the SMS rumor.
“So already, where did we read that PSG wanted a midfielder? It is a kind of extrapolation and collective fantasy. It’s possible,” Ménès said. ” I do not find that the PSG midfielder has been so deficient this year compared to previous seasons. Milinkovic-Savic is an excellent player, a very good technician, he has a lot of showdowns, but beware, this is not a number 6.”
A report came out that the Ligue 1 champions agreed to a contract deal with Milinković-Savić, who would earn a salary of approximately €7 million per year.
Despite the Serbia international being an attractive option, Ménès is right, PSG needs a number six midfielder, and Milinković-Savić doesn’t fill that need unless they want to rotate Leandro Paredes and Idrissa Gueye at that position.
Nonetheless, if the Ligue 1 champions bring in Milinković-Savić, they may also be able to bring his teammate, Adam Marusic, who will replace Thomas Meunier at right-back. The double swoop may be too enticing for Leonardo to pass up.
