Details About August Champions League Tournament Revealed

Paris Saint-Germain will resume training on June 22, and prepare to conclude the 2019-20 season, which includes the Coupe de France final, Coupe de la Ligue final, and most importantly, the UEFA Champions League.

The last time we saw PSG, they were eliminating Borussia Dortmund from the Champions League in the Round of 16 . Then the coronavirus suspended the competition.

Official details about the resumption of the Champions League haven’t been released and likely won’t be until UEFA’s executive committee meets on Wednesday. However, thanks to Sky Italia and cited by Sport, we now know when and where the prestigious competition will take place:

Remaining Round of 16 games
August 7, 8, 9
Games will be played in the stadium originally scheduled to host. (example: Juventus FC will host Olympique Lyonnais)

Quarter-Finals
August 12, 13, 14, 15
Single-Elimination in Lisbon, Portugal

Semi-Finals
August 18, 19
Single-elimination in Lisbon, Portugal

Final
August 23
Estádio Sport Lisboa e Benfica

Assuming the draw for the quarter-finals takes place on the 10 or the 11 after the Round of 16, there will be very little time for teams to scout their opponents. This year’s Champions League may be unlike its predecessors but the ultimate winner will have earned the title. No asterisk necessary.

  1. PSG was 3rd-best odds before COVID and their first competitive game in 5 months is going to be a Champions League Quarterfinal

Bayern was 2nd-best odds and they have 40 days between their last league match and the restart

City was best odds and gets 10 league games and 0-3 cup games that end just before the tournament restarts in preparation

If you don’t use an asterisk for this tournament there simply is no asterisk-appropriate context
