With the departure of Thomas Meunier, who is now a member of Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain sporting director, Leonardo, is likely looking for a new right-back in the transfer market.
Last month, there was a report that the capital club was showing interest in Atalanta BC right-back Timothy Castagne. The 24-year-old recently spoke with newspaper La Dernier Heure (via ParisFans) about the reports that link him with a move to PSG and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Belgium international is flattered that such clubs have an interest in him, but he’s hoping that it becomes more than that.
“I think the time has come to take a step but I will not be disappointed if I stay in Bergamo. Any interest from PSG or Tottenham? I am very proud of this, but I hope more than just interest from them,” Castagne said. “Honestly, if a team like PSG or Tottenham comes knocking on the door, you can’t say no.”
Although he’s registered as a right-back, Castagne has played all over the pitch during his time with Atalanta. Whether it’s left-back, right-midfield, or even as a right-winger, he has shown that he’s a versatile player, which manager Thomas Tuchel prefers as we’ve seen with Marquinhos and even Ander Herrera who played right-back at times this season.
Now for the cost, according to Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old has a value of €16 million, so it isn’t a ridiculous price. Furthermore, Leonardo does prefer talent from Serie A, so we’ll see how far this interest goes for Castagne.
