‘Who Would Say No to PSG?’ – Wolfsburg Defender Reacts to Potential Transfer

Paris Saint-Germain has been linked with numerous right-backs in recent weeks, which confirms that the position is absolutely a priority this offseason.

Thomas Meunier’s contract expires on June 30 and is unlikely to be offered a suitable extension. With two relatively untested right-backs in the squad, Colin Dagba and Thilo Kehrer (who is more of a center-back), Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, is working the phones to see who is available and at what price.

Mattia De Sciglio (Juventus FC), Achraf Hakimi (Real Madrid), Hamari Traoré (Stade Rennais), and Youcef Atal (OGC Nice) have all seen their names in headlines and rumored to be of interest to PSG. On Tuesday, a new name entered the fray.

Kevin Mbabu is a 25-year-old right-back currently at VfL Wolfsburg. He joined the club last summer from BSC Young Boys and is on a contract that expires in 2023. However, despite recently landing in the Bundesliga, the Swiss defender didn’t deny that he would consider a move to Ligue 1 in an interview with beIN Sports (via Le10Sport).

“Who would say no to PSG? But there is no contact at the moment. The only goal was to be in great shape for this resumption of the Bundesliga. And now I have to confirm my performance this weekend, that I try to repeat that.”

Mbabu has a market value of a very reasonable €6.5 million, per Transfermarkt, so even if Wolfsburg asked for a premium on the player, he should still be affordable for PSG. Also, PSG and Wolfsburg have a decent working relationship. In January of 2017, Paris signed Julian Draxler for €35 million.

I would prefer PSG to sign a player like Atal or Hakimi, but if players of that caliber are out of reach this summer, Mbabu would be a nice addition to the squad where he would have to battle with Dagba and Kehrer for the starting right-back position.
