If you thought Qatar Sports Investments was thinking about dumping their ownership in Paris Saint-Germain, recent comments from club president should dispel those rumors.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who along with being the president of PSG is the chairman of QSI and beIN Media Group, was recently named the most powerful person in football by France Football. In an interview with the publication (via Culture PSG), Al-Khelaifi confirmed that the PSG project, which started in 2011, is only just getting started.
“I am very proud of what we have already accomplished, but we are still only at the start of this adventure. There is still a long way to go. This project does not only express a vision for a football club. It encompasses a vision for a city, but also for all of French football and the diversity of families that compose and surround it.”
The 46-year-old PSG executive then discussed his strategy in turning the club into one of the best and most recognized in the world.
“This is why we have always sought to invest intelligently, whether in player recruitments, in the training of future talents, in the renovation or construction of high-end infrastructure, in the disciplines that are important to us such as women’s football, handball, or e-sport. Without forgetting, of course, our very strong commitment to our PSG Foundation, which changes lives every day.”
The next few years should be especially busy for Al-Khelaifi. Currently, PSG are waiting in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League where they hope to win the first title in club history. Next summer, if Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr. don’t sign extensions, he could have to deal with those two players departing the French capital, and then in 2022, the FIFA World Cup will be in Qatar. Oh, and he may be involved in the purchase of Leeds United.
One thing I highly doubt he’ll be involved in is the sale of Paris Saint-Germain.
