Paris Saint-Germain beat Real Madrid to Kylian Mbappé in 2017 when the young Frenchman made the switch from AS Monaco to the French capital and now, the two clubs are expected to battle it out once again for Erling Haaland.
The Borussia Dortmund striker has scored 10 goals in nine Bundesliga matches since making the switch from RB Salzburg last January. Haaland even scored two goals against PSG in the UEFA Champions League before ultimately bowing out to the French giants.
According to Marca, PSG is planning to “compete with Real Madrid” for the signature of the 19-year-old just like they did with Mbappé.
The idea of PSG signing Haaland may sound ridiculous at first but, according to Sky Deutschland, Haaland has a €60 million release clause in his contract with Dortmund, which is more than the €70 million PSG would have to pay Inter Milan to retain Mauro Icardi after his season-long loan.
If PSG could convince Haaland to come to Paris and play in Ligue 1, they could let Icardi return to Inter Milan, allow Edinson Cavani to run out his contract, and have a front three of Mbappé, Haaland, and Neymar Jr.
One possible wrench in this plan is Real Madrid’s interesting in signing both Mbappé and Haaland and bringing them to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in 2021. The only advantage PSG has over Madrid is that they already have Mbappé and right now, Haaland can be bought for a very reasonable price.
If PSG really wants to upset the world of football, signing Haaland, who is the darling of the sport right now, would be absolutely massive and show that they will back down to no one when it comes to transfers and that they are assembling the new Galácticos.
