Julian Draxler is the rare example of a player that is comfortable primarily being a substitute and isn’t necessarily concerned with a transfer to another team in search of more playing time.
The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder arrived from VfL Wolfsburg (€35 million) in 2017 and has never really ascended to the level of a regular starter.
This season, it was reported that several teams were interested in Draxler, including Hertha BSC and AC Milan, but the 26-year-old remains with the Ligue 1 champions.
That could change during the upcoming transfer window according to Fussball Transfers who report that Arsenal and an unnamed Premier League club have reached out to Draxler’s representatives to see if he would be interested in leaving the French capital.
A swap deal with Inter Milan has also been proposed to help lower the cost of signing Mauro Icardi.
For any team wanting to sign Draxler, his wages are bound to be an issue. According to L’Equipe, he earns an estimated gross monthly salary of €600K.
Ultimately, it will be up to Draxler to decide what is most important at this point in his career. He is entering the last year of his contract and with the UEFA European Championship moved to next summer, he may be forced to move to a team where he can play regularly to ensure a place in the Germany national team.
From PSG’s point of view, selling Draxler now would be advantageous. They’re facing substantial financial losses due to the coronavirus and the influx of cash could be reinvested into building up the squad.
