Now that the Mauro Icardi situation has been finalized, Leonardo, Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director, can direct his full attention to addressing the club’s defensive issues.
For weeks, PSG’s interest in FC Porto left-back Alex Telles has been making the rounds in the transfer rumor mill. Most recently, reports out of Portugal indicated that the Ligue 1 champions were close to a €25 million deal for the 27-year-old.
As with all of these transfers, nothing is done until you see official communication from the club and the player is holding the PSG jersey.
Today, O Jogo (via Culture PSG), revealed that another club has equaled PSG’s bid of €25 million and although they did not name the team, I have my suspicions.
If I had to guess, the club who joined PSG in the race for Telles is Chelsea FC. According to Tuttosport (via Le10Sport), the Premier League club has held discussions with Telles’ representatives and they believe the Blues are slightly ahead of PSG.
Working in PSG’s favor could be players like Marquinhos and Neymar Jr. They may be able to convince their compatriot to choose PSG over Chelsea. If the Ligue 1 champions can sign Willian, another fellow Brazilian, that could boost their chances as well.
