Mbappé Finishes as Ligue 1’s Top Goalscorer; Di Maria Leads in Assists

If the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season is over and Paris Saint-Germain are champions, it’s time to start handing out some end-of-season awards.

The race to be the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 came down to two men, Kylian Mbappé and AS Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder according to Ligue 1’s statistics site.

Both players finished with 18 goals but thanks to a better goal to match ratio (18 goals in 20 games compared to 18 goals in 26 games), Mbappé will take top honors for the second consecutive season.

While the goalscorer race was razor-thin, there’s no question who the top assist man in Ligue 1 is. With 14 assists through 26 appearances, Angel Di Maria beat second-place Islam Slimani from Monaco who finished the season with eight assists.

Neymar Jr.’s performance this season was good enough to finish fifth on both lists. Through only 15 appearances in Ligue 1, the Brazil international recorded 13 goals and six assists.

As a team, PSG dominated the statistics as well. They had the best attack with 50 goals scored, the best possession percentage (63.07 percent), and passes with 11,057 total passes.

The season may have come to an abrupt end but PSG earned their ninth championship in club history.
