Kylian Mbappé can’t even like a photo on Instagram without Liverpool FC fans losing their minds. Even a new kit deal with Nike led to them making #Mbappe2020 trend on Twitter. With that in mind, it’s safe to say they will likely overreact to his recent comments about the Premier League leaders.
In an interview with the Mirror, Mbappé was asked if he watches the Premier League and the Paris Saint-Germain superstar mentioned Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp specifically.
“This season Liverpool have been a machine in the Premier League. They have made winning look easy–but the truth is that it is never easy.”
“To be as ruthless as they have been would come from having a very good manager and lots of hard work in training. Performances like they have been having don’t just happen.”
Liverpool fans can dream about signing Mbappé all they want but those of us not in fantasy land are more interested in his comments about Klopp.
You’ll remember that not once, but twice this season, Mbappé has had a sideline altercation with PSG manager, Thomas Tuchel, after being taken out of a match before the final whistle. I do wonder if this is a veiled shot at Tuchel and his training habits.
Could PSG sack the manager to appease Mbappé? It’s certainly possible. Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, didn’t hire Tuchel and there’s been a report that Massimiliano Allegri would prefer to stay in Italy but his favorite destination abroad is PSG. Former PSG player and former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is also available.
Mbappé is under contract at PSG until 2022 and there have been some very shaky rumors linking the FIFA World Cup winner with a move to Liverpool. However, according to Klopp, his club has no chance of affording him.
