Inter Milan may have given Paris Saint-Germain a discount on Mauro Icardi but the Italian club took extra steps to make sure they don’t see the Argentinian striker in Serie A any time soon.
On Friday, it was reported that PSG successfully negotiated a lower fee for Icardi. Originally, Icardi’s season-long loan included a €70 million option to buy clause, however, PSG will only pay €50 million with €7 million in add-ons.
Today, journalist Romeo Agresti reported that the deal negotiated between PSG and Inter includes an “anti-Serie A” clause. Essentially, if PSG decides to sell the 27-year-old Icardi to a club in Italy, they will have to pay Inter an additional €15 million.
This is clearly Inter’s way of making sure PSG doesn’t sell Icardi to Juventus FC, which has expressed an interest in the past.
If things go well at PSG for Icardi, I can’t imagine the Ligue 1 champions wanting to sell any time soon, so this clause shouldn’t be an issue. However, if he pulls any stunts as he did at Inter and PSG has no choice but to sell, that additional €15 million could make selling him a pricey decision.
