Grading PSG: An Incomplete Season For Promising Right-Back

Now that the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season is over, it’s time to hand out some grades to the Paris Saint-Germain players for their performance in the French top flight.

Note: In order to be graded, each player needed to have appeared in at least five Ligue 1 matches this season.

Colin Dagba

Intro: The season started out with so much promise for Colin Dagba. Last October, the young Frenchman signed a contract extension that will keep him with the capital club until June of 2024. Then he played on an abysmal pitch against Pau FC in the Coupe de France last January and went down with a serious knee injury that has kept him out of action since.

At 21-years-old, Dagba was expected to take over for Thomas Meunier at right-back but a muscle injury early in the season and then the knee injury has set back his development and it remains to be season if he will be able to bounce back and be the same player he was before.

Stats:

10 Appearances
30.4 Accurate Passes per Game
0.2 Aerial Duels Won per Game
2.0 Ground Duels Won per Game
0.6 Interceptions per Game
1.0 Tackles per Game
1 Yellow card

Final Grade: Incomplete

Outlook: Paris Saint-Germain supporters don’t really know what they have in Dagba. Sure, he has potential as evidenced by the contract extension he was offered, but is he too injury-prone to be relied upon heading into next season? Meunier is expected to leave after the end of the season and PSG will be looking for a right-back in the transfer market. If they successfully sign a player capable of starting at the beginning of next season, Dagba will not only have to recover from his knee injury but elevate his play and earn back his playing time.
