Cesc Fabregas and Neymar Jr. played together briefly at FC Barcelona during the 2013-14 season but they’ve faced off as adversaries plenty of times since.
Recently, the two have gone up against each other in Ligue 1 with Fabregas now suiting up for AS Monaco and Neymar in his third season with Paris Saint-Germain.
The newly crowned Ligue 1 champions had two entertaining matches against the principality club this season with both games played back-to-back last January.
First, there was the thrilling 3-3 draw at the Parc des Princes with Neymar scoring two goals and at the Stade Louis II, Neymar converted a penalty as PSG went on to win 4-1.
Having seen plenty of the Brazil international, Fabregas is perhaps more qualified than most to speak to what makes Neymar a special footballer, which he did on Instagram (via Mundo Deportivo).
“Neymar is a safe bet, he has qualities of the level of those of Ronaldinho. He’s a superstar who makes the difference when he wants to. It’s been a while since I played with him and he recently killed us in two games with PSG.”
Fabregas then explained why Barcelona superstars Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez prefer to play with Neymar.
“Messi, Luis, and the others liked having him on the team because at any time he could help or dribble, which is difficult in close matches.”
The former Arsenal FC midfielder concluded by mentioning Neymar’s personality and outlook on life.
“He has everything to be the best. Outside he is a very good boy, he is like a child, he is always happy and enjoys life, he has a good time and he is a person who always shows up.”
