L’Equipe is notorious for its ridiculously low scores when rating players. In fact, there’s only been 11 players who have scored a perfect 10 out of 10.
With that in mind, the French publication’s Ligue 1 Team of the Season ratings makes a lot more sense considering the player with the highest score was Neymar Jr. with a 6.40!
The Paris Saint-Germain superstar ranked in the top five for both goals and assists this season and several of his goals were of the game-winning variety. That apparently was only good enough for a slightly better than a mediocre season.
Joining Neymar in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season are teammates Kylian Mbappé (6), Angel Di Maria (6.17), Marco Verratti (6.12), and Thomas Tuchel (6.04).

Mbappé’s score jumped out at me because AS Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder finished slightly better with a rating of 6.04. Both scored the same amount of goals but Mbappé was given the golden boot for scoring more goals from open play. He also recorded more assists than Ben Yedder.
Somewhat concerning is the lack of PSG representatives on defense. Not even Keylor Navas, who had a great debut season didn’t get the nod over Stade de Reims goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic.
It’s not like the defense that made the list was all that impressive either. For example, Olympique Lyonnais right-back Léo Dubois only needed a 5.20 score to make the cut.
